Converting a three-hole sink to a single-hole faucet leaves spare holes. A matched dispenser is the most useful thing to put in one — if it refills from above.

A soap dispenser is not part of the faucet — it is a separate fitting in its own deck hole, usually sold in the same box. The Moen Sombra 87701SRS includes a matching one, which solves the finish-matching problem that makes add-on dispensers look wrong. Check one thing before buying any of them: whether the bottle refills from above the deck.
This page exists because of an accident of plumbing history. Most sinks are drilled for three or four fittings; most faucets sold today mount through one. That leaves spare holes, and a matched soap dispenser is the most useful thing to put in one.

The refill detail that decides whether it gets used
Older dispenser designs refill from below: you open the cabinet, lie on your back, unscrew the reservoir from the underside of the deck, fill it, and screw it back on without spilling. That is why so many built-in soap dispensers sit empty — the refill is annoying enough that people stop doing it.
Top-fill designs let you pour soap straight into the spout from above the deck, which turns a ten-minute job into a five-second one. If a dispenser's listing does not say which it is, assume bottom-fill and treat that as a real strike against it.
Matching, and why an included dispenser is worth something
Finish matching across brands is harder than it looks: two manufacturers' "stainless" are two slightly different colors and textures, and a near-match beside the faucet reads as a mistake in a way a deliberate contrast does not. A dispenser supplied with the faucet is matched by construction, which removes the problem entirely.

The pull-out we would fit, and the one that quietly solves a second problem: it ships with a matching soap dispenser, so a three-hole sink converting to a single-hole faucet has something to put in the spare hole that was designed alongside it. A standard fixed-spout faucet with a separate side spray — the configuration almost nobody makes any more, and the one you need if you own a portable dishwasher or a faucet-mount filter. Because the spout ends in an ordinary threaded aerator rather than a spray wand, accessories that screw on actually fit.

What else that spare hole could be
A soap dispenser is one of three genuinely useful things to put in a spare deck hole. The others are an air switch for a garbage disposal, which is the correct answer when there is no wall switch, and a dedicated tap for an under-sink water filter. All three are far easier when the hole already exists — see faucet hole configurations for what each drilling pattern can take.
