Affiliate disclosure

Spout & Sink participates in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.

When you click a buy link on this site, you go through a short redirect on our own domain that adds our Associates tag and sends you to Amazon. If you buy something in that session, Amazon pays us a percentage of the sale. You pay exactly the same price you would have paid arriving at Amazon directly — the commission comes out of the retailer's margin, not your pocket.

That is the whole mechanism. There is no subscription, no paywall, no newsletter to sell, and no display advertising on this site.

Every buy button on Spout & Sink says "Check price on Amazon" rather than showing a number. Two reasons, and both are honest ones.

First, a cached price is a wrong price. Retail prices change daily, and a site that prints them is publishing something that will be inaccurate within a week — which is worse than useless when you are making a purchase decision. Second, this site has no live price feed, so any number we printed would be one somebody typed in and then forgot about. Our content model deliberately has nowhere to store a price, so nobody can.

The consequence for you is a click: you see the current price on Amazon's page rather than a stale one on ours. We think that is the right trade, and it is genuinely more honest than a competitor's month-old cached figure presented as current.

Amazon Associates, and at present nothing else. We are a new publication, and affiliate networks approve publishers rather than the reverse — so rather than link to programs we have not joined, every product link on this site goes to Amazon with our own tag.

Where we link to a manufacturer's own website — for a specification sheet or a raw spec table — we earn nothing at all. Those links exist so you can check our figures against the source. They are not commercial links and they are not tagged.

• Which products get recommended. Picks are chosen on published specifications, and every figure links to its source so you can check the reasoning rather than trust it.
• Ranking order. A cheaper product that suits your kitchen better ranks above a more expensive one that does not, every time.
• Whether we say something negative. Every pick on this site carries an explicit "skip it if" line naming who should not buy it.
• Whether a page has picks at all. Safety and troubleshooting content carries products only where a product genuinely belongs in the procedure.

In three places, deliberately. A short disclosure sits above the first affiliate link on every page that has one. Every buy button carries an "#ad" marker and a link back to this page. And the footer of every page on the site carries the Amazon Associates statement. Footer-only disclosure is not sufficient, and we do not rely on it.

Every commercial link also carries `rel="sponsored nofollow"`, which is what Google asks publishers to use for paid or affiliate links. Editorial citations to manufacturers and labs do not, because they are genuine references rather than commercial links.
